A low-pressure system centred over northern Europe will draw masses of cool, moist air towards the Alps.
The weather will become increasingly unsettled. Showers are expected as early as this morning and will become more widespread as the day goes on. The snow line will drop locally to below 1,500 m.

Friday will see generally cloudy skies with widespread showers in the afternoon.
Saturday will also start off with unsettled weather. As the day progresses, a northerly wind will blow across many valleys and the showers will gradually ease off. Temperatures will remain fairly low.
On Sunday, the weather will improve, with clouds clearing and sunny spells.
Sunny weather is also forecast for Monday, with a few cumulus clouds in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise slowly.
